The land boom of the mid 1920s transformed the history of St. Martin. A consortium of investors from Chicago and New York City became enchanted with the magnificent environment, temperate climate, and also very convenient railroad transport provided to snow birds that lived in the Midwest. These capitalists selected a location in eastern St. Martin at the mouth of Old Ft Bayou to build a wintertime holiday resort. It was named Gulf Hills since small streams that fed into Old Ft Bayou dissected the elevated rolling hillside terrain.

Today, St. Martin is the Second fastest growing community in Jackson County. Over the past 10 years, the populace has grown by eighteen percent.

St. Martin has a gorgeous native environment offers many opportunities for recreation as well as eco-tourism.
